Imbolc (pronounced im-olk, it’s a silent b!)
When we match the rhythms and behaviour of the macrocosmic natural world with our own microcosmic biological world, we enter into harmonious flow.
It is a form of surrendering your resistance to the river of life and opting instead to flow with it!
At Imbolc, the green shoots are beginning to pop out of the earth all around us after the long, deep slumber of Winter. For the individual, if we sufficiently stripped back the old overgrowth of last year, during our Autumn and Winter, then the green shoots will be appearing in the fertile void as new ideas right now. Possibilities.
Life will literally be planting seeds packed full of potential for you to bring, or to not bring, to life over the Spring and Summer.
This is not a metaphor.
If we are truly pulsing in and out with the natural harmonic motion of nature, then it is this stage of the cycle that all your inspiration will come for the year ahead.
All you need to do right now, at the precipice of Spring, is to clear the way for these ideas. You do not need to act on them yet. Don’t hurriedly start making plans to ac
tualise anything. Just let it all sit in you.
The possibilities that arise may or may not actually be yours to manifest. There is a conscious choosing process that can happen at the start of Spring where you’ll actually plant these seeds.
The seeds could be very worldly - a new career possibility, a house move, the desire to add to the family, to build a chicken coop, to start a new side hustle. They might be heart projects that arise - an idea for a book, a poem, a painting, a song. They might be body focused - the inspiration to eat better, get fitter, try a new sport. They might be mind focused - wanting to study a new philosophy, learn a new language, read a new book… you get the idea.
But you must resist the urge to run out and start building the coop, or buying the canvas or the new tennis racket. Just wait.
Imbolc rewards unhurriedness. Let everything percolate, give it all some space to solidify.
That way, by the time Spring comes you will be absolutely clear about what seeds you are planting this year, and there won’t be anything half-grown in the way to block the sunlight.
